Gerald vanHeerden

Mr. vanHeerden is an Artistic Director, Stage Director, Producing Director, a graduate of The Boston Conservatory, an alumnus of Webster University Theater Arts Conservatory, as well as an emerging director of New Works. He has a long and storied career of experience in the NYC Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway theater community, working with new plays and creative musical theater endeavors as Artistic Director of Plays for many seasons at the Midtown International Theatre Festival, as Producer/Director of vMHF Theatricals, and as a Conceptualist/Director at SDC. A Resident Director of Break A Leg Productions, Mr. vanHeerden helmed its award-winning presentation, Farm Hall, in July 2014 and, as Producer/ Director in February 2015, Dangerous Walk by Mathew Ethan Davis at the Venus Theatre Festival. In February 2016, he produced and directed Caldwell’s Bomb by William Rogers at the Venus Theatre Festival, which was given an Encore as Finalist and for which he was nominated as Best Director. In March 2017, he directed Your Name On My Lips..., a new musical at Theater For The New City. He directed a developmental production of Relatively Conscious, a new play by Jon-Marc McDonald in 2018 at The Hudson Guild in NYC and a staged reading in 2019 at the Ensemble Theatre, Houston, TX. Also in 2019, BAL: The King’s Face at EAG and Dangerous to Dance With, a new play by William Rogers at The Dream Up Festival, TFNC. Among his directing credits for 2020 are Wish Mirage, a new play by Garry Michael White (Screenwriter of Al Pacino's and Gene Hackman's SCARECROW); an in-person, filmed backers’ audition of Wish Mirage presented by vMHF Theatricals in NYC. Gerald produced and directed Annie Jr. at The Lowell School, presented by The Lowell School in Queens, NY, March 2020 (closed prior to performance because of Covid). Among Gerald's online projects in 2021 were producing and directing honor, a new play by William R. Duell, presented March 2021 as a filmed and edited stage reading with NYC Equity Broadway actors by vMHF Theatricals as a benefit for Wordsmyth Theater Company in Houston and, in April 2021, directing a table reading with book, lyrics and music of Deep Secrets, a new musical by Linda Alderman (Book/Lyrics) and Rita Herson (Book/Music) at Stageworks in Tampa, FL as well as a staged reading at ArtNY, NYC. Stage Directors and Choreographers national and Broadway union (SDC) member.
